COMMITTEE REPORTS
Author’s Tea
The 9th Annual Author’s Tea will be held on May 4, 2017 at 2:00 at the Flanders. The cost will be $30.00 and High Tea will be served. Author, Jennifer Shirk, will be the speaker. One hundred tickets will be sold and there will be open seating. Tickets will be sold in the atrium on Friday, April 21, from 6:00 to 8:00 and on Saturday, April 22, from 10:00 to 12:00. Checks should be made out to the Friends and Volunteers of the OCFPL.
Baby Bags
A chance meeting with the Director of Nursing at the hospital uncovered the need for additional bags to be prepared monthly. Twenty additional bags will now be prepared each month, totaling 100.
Book Sale
All members of the committee and volunteers who worked the book sale were thanked for their assistance in making the book sale a success.
Hospitality
Members will be needed to man a table in the atrium during National Library Week, April 8 – 14. They will distribute goodies provided by the library from 9:00 to 12:00, as well as, sell books from the dollar cart and encourage people to sign up to receive the newsletter.
Read Across America
Bags with books and goodies for Read Across America were quickly prepared using a production line on February 23. Twenty-eight readers from the police department, fire department, and mayor’s office read to the students in the Primary School on March 2. Miss Ocean City, the Library staff, Historical Museum representatives and volunteers from our membership also participated. Thank you notes have been received from primary school students.
Special Projects
The display case holds Norman Rockwell plates from the collection of Thelma Bates. The plates are from 1977 through 1991 and depict an adult passing on information to a child.
Third Grade Reading Club
Students are currently reading How to Steal a Dog by Barbara O’Connor. The next club session is March 15, 2017.
OLD BUSINESS
By-Laws and Policies and Procedures
The revised By-Laws and Policies and Procedures were passed and the changes were approved to be immediately enacted. The Nominating Committee was reactivated to seek someone to fill the newly approved second Delegate-at-Large position on the Executive Board.
Upcoming Library Events
Members have volunteered to assist with the Library’s OC CON Event to be held on April 1 and 2. They will also help with The Edible Book Festival on April 5, 2017 from 11:00 to 3:00.
NEW BUSINESS
Members are encouraged to take photos of our events so that they can be posted to our website or published in newspapers.
The new member luncheon is set for Monday, April 10, following our next membership meeting.
Veteran members have been asked to take us on a “Journey Down Memory Lane” to describe our history and to highlight how our organization got to where it is today.
