The Hospitality Committee serves refreshments for various functions of the Ocean City Free Public Library and is a welcoming presence to Library-sponsored and Volunteer events. At the April meeting, the Hospitality Committee provides a luncheon and reception for new members and those interested in becoming members of the Friends and Volunteers of the Ocean City Free Public Library.

Behind the scenes creating a welcoming, enjoyable experience for everyone at hosted events is Jeanne Pless, Committee Chair.

Jeanne’s attention to detail and her willingness to do whatever it takes to make the members enjoy their opportunities to get together…Jeanne personifies—hospitality |ˌhäspiˈtalitē| noun—the friendly and generous reception and entertainment of guests, visitors, or strangers.

Hospitality

The Hospitality Committee oversees several events each year.  The first event, a New Member Luncheon, is held in April to introduce and welcome new members to the organization.

During National Library Week, usually the second week of April, the Friends and Volunteers host a table in the Library Atrium to offer small tokens and snacks provided by the library, to distribute information about the Ocean City Free Public Library and act as good will ambassadors to visitors.

In October, National Friends of the Library Week is celebrated in a similar manner and offers members the opportunity to chat with library patrons while explaining the projects and purposes of the Friends and Volunteers.

The Ocean City Chamber of Commerce’s Welcome Night is held at the Ocean City Sports and Civic Center in early October.  The Friends and Volunteers staff a table to showcase the Ocean City Free Public Library and the Friends and Volunteers Program by distributing pamphlets and snacks.

The final event of the year for the Hospitality Committee is a Holiday Luncheon.  Committee members prepare the room and serve a luncheon provided by the library for the Friends and Volunteers.
