Annual Author’s Tea

Each spring, the Friends and Volunteers of the Ocean City Free Public Library host a Tea featuring a local author. The Tea—held at the Flanders Hotel—further promotes the Ocean City Free Public Library and has become one of our community’s most anticipated events, as well as, a popular venue for local authors.

Our popular Author’s Tea returns. Local author Jim Plousis will discuss his book, Jersey Lawmen: A Life on the Right Side of Crime.

Caitlin Alifirenka is the author of this true story of a twelve-year-old girl who, through a pen pal program, befriends Martin Ganda, a young boy from Zimbabwe, Africa. It describes how their friendship opened their eyes, expanded their horizons and changed both of their lives.

The 2017 F&V Author’s HIGH Tea was a success with our own Ocean City author and Library Board of Trustees President, Jennifer Shirk, Romance novelist!

Excerpted & Adapted from Jennifer Shirk’s website…

Jennifer Shirk has a bachelor degree in pharmacy—which has in NO WAY at all helped her with her writing career—but, she likes to point it out, since it shows romantic-at-hearts come in all shapes, sizes, and mind-numbing educations.

She writes sweet, romantic comedies. Her novel SUNNY DAYS FOR SAM won the 2013 Golden Quill Published Authors Contest for Best Traditional Romance, and her book Fiance by Fate was an Amazon best seller in series romance.

2016 F&V High Tea….Women in World War II

The 2016 Annual Author HIGH Tea was held on Thursday, May 5, 2:00 PM—featuring author, Patricia ChappineNew Jersey Women in World War II.

Real-life Rosie the Riveters worked the lines in New Jerseys factories, such as those of General Motors Eastern Aircraft Division, while women on the vulnerable coast enforced blackout orders. Others sold war bonds, planted victory gardens and conserved materials for the war effort. Thousands more served as nurses and in branches of the armed forces like the Women’s Army Corps and the U.S. Navy’s Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service. African American women fought a double war: one against the nation’s enemies and another against discrimination. Historian Patricia Chappine explores the pivotal roles that New Jersey women played in World War II.
