The Friends and Volunteers are deeply saddened by the untimely passing of our director, Chris Maloney. He was always looking to improve the library’s accessibility to the community. Chris was the library’s greatest asset and he will be greatly missed.

I think Nancy has spoken eloquently for all of us so deeply saddened by the loss of Chris. The staff, the friends and volunteers, in fact, the entire city is in need of solace. In particular, his co-workers are trying so very hard to cope with this. We need to help them all through this terrible time.
I have known Chris Maloney for years, both as a member of the Friends and Volunteers and as a Library employee. Chris was consistently supportive of the Friends and Volunteers, both as the Reference Librarian and as the Library Director. Beyond being supportive, Chris was appreciative of the Friends and Volunteers and encouraged us in many ways. He saw us as a positive extension of the Ocean City Free Public Library and helped us maintain that image.
Therefore, I find it beyond sad and unconscionable that we, the Friends and Volunteers, cannot offer solace to Chris’s friends and co-workers or show our Library’s patrons, the community and Chris’s family and friends our respect, our sadness and our consideration by providing a floral tribute in honor of Chris at the most appropriate place;
