Third Grade Family Literature Club

Each year, a third grade teacher in the Ocean City Public Schools conducts a student/parent Reading Club. The Friends and Volunteers of the Ocean City Free Public Library purchase new books and replacements when needed.

The Friends and Volunteers of the Ocean City Free Public Library (FVOCFPL) Third Grade Family Literature Club Co-Chairpersons Kathleen Woodring and Mary Ann Mozzo presented the 2018 Third Grade Reading Club—led by teacher Peg Dunner—with Sun Rose Books gift certificates for up to $10.00 in recognition of their participation in this voluntary program. The Club seeks to promote good life-long reading habits of the Ocean City Primary School children.

Sun Rose Books has been supportive of The FVOCFPL in printing up gift certificates for this and other primary school programs, as well as, assisting students in selecting age appropriate books at the store.

Third Grade Family Literature Club Committee

The Third Family Literature Club meets once per month, October to April, at the Ocean City Primary School. Meetings are typically scheduled on the evening of the third Thursday of each month.  The Friends and Volunteers provide a book each month to be read and discussed by the parent(s) and third grader.

At the first club meeting of the year the students receive a bookmark provided by the Jersey Cape Atlantic Embroiderer’s Guild and learn about the Friends and Volunteers of the OCFPL.  The teacher who is the Primary School’s Reading Club advisor holds lively discussions during which students and parents share plot and character details and personal opinions.

At the final club meeting, a celebration with refreshments is held and each student who participated throughout the school year receives an “up to $10” gift certificate to be used at Sun Rose Book Store to purchase a book.
